A very fun and immerse game brought you by Double Fine |
Nowadays, we can get games by either retail stores or online, the latter being still a "new" way to deliver media and with many flaws such as the big game developments usually are... well big and most consoles aren't equipped to take much of those games in its hard drive, so they usually sell small content such as DLC and games that don't consume much of its space, and that's where stacking appears.
We've seen online games can be more viral that most we seen in Retail stores, just like Braid or Limbo, and Stacking does that without gimpering the game with retro style graphics.
The Game
Stacking makes us travel to a world that is habited by Russian Dolls on the time-line of the 1920's depression that occurred in the USA. The game itself focuses on a small child of a family of chimney-sweepers, Charlie Blackmoore and its plight to save his familly from the clutches of the evil Baron, who enslaved them into working for him, thus when starting his quest he befriends a hobo named Levi who will help him. Starting quickly you will have the need (because your the smallest of the dolls) to stack with bigger dolls, to use special doll skills, such as, farting, fixing, seducing and blowing smoke from your pipe and Charlie must use these special skills to help him solve his little problems. You proceed in the game by solving puzzles, and most intriguing aspect is that every puzzle you need to solve, has multiple ways of being solved (and that makes it fun for you trophy/achievements hunters), each of the ways are very funny and inventive thus making it all the more fun to solve them, in the first puzzle you might find yourself farting into a fan, luring un-priviledged people into the area or even seducing guards.

But this is not all you have to do in the game, you also have to collect the same family of dolls, which some are lost in the various areas you are located at, and also perform Hi-Jinks, a prank like action like slapping other dolls silly, all of this makes the game.

The graphics themselves detach itself from its superb quality and richness, influenced by the silent movies of the era, and the theater cut-scenes blend in seamlessly to the game, the areas are beautifully designed and the decoration divides itself from the 20's era and small items we see everyday, such as matches and cards. The controls are extremely simple and accurate and there is no way you can miss them or find them sloppy.
All in all, Stacking stack up to all the must download game adding itself to the small but very good line-up to online games.
