Streets of Rage Remake, or how Homer J. Simpson would put it "mmmmmmh.... Organized Crime"

I think of one of the games that I played the most in my entire youth on the mega drive was either Mortal Kombat or Streets of Rage series at that time but only one survived, that is until recently.

Streets of Rage was a side scrolling beat'em up released in the 90's by Sega (when they actually made games we cared about) and over the course of time it was converted into different consoles with the latest being in 2009 with the iPhone. Really? the iPhone?

The three charactersThe Gameplay was very similar to another game of that genre, time and even producer Golden Axe, in which the enemies would come out of the edges of the screen, you had to kill them by the use of deadly force or epic roller blading in order to move forward. There were some power-ups (depending on which installment you played) that would give you either food that increased your health, special power-up that would increase the number of times you could use the power up, or weapons to ease your way into killing the opponents.

The plot of the game consisted on the same thing we see in everyday action movie, there something evil organization making a crime-spree in the town and it's up to you, the hero to save the day. Of course this back then was epic as we were just one against a plenitude of horrible, ugly and sometimes fat grunts sent to kick our ass.

Anyway fast-forwarding to the project. The SorR, or Streets of rage Remake, is from bombergames (The development team) point of view, a tribute to the series and which has been on development since March, 2003. In April, 2011 a nearly 8 years in development the final product has been released and making a resound impact that caught the attention of big media news websites like Kotaku, Joystiq and even MTV Gaming department.

It's final release comes with a lot of interesting features, the developers made sure that people would see the that  since it was the final release, all their hard work has payed off completely by bringing up more than enough options to satisfy even the most hardcore fan.

The game itself is just like the original, but better. When I say this, I mean that all the present features of the game will be present as it was known by its release information, even the collisions of the old game have been transported into the new game so nothing would be a miss. Music and sound effects have been remixed and some changed to todays standards being updated to OGG format and each enemy and character having different voices.

You have over 103 stages to play in, including the extras already, 19 characters which counts with the original cast with new moves and other new additions,  64 enemies from all versions of the game including the game gear version and to top that they added Battle Mode,  Survival Mode, Boss Rush Mode, Event Mode, Allied CPU mode and plus 30 customizable options and this is just a small scent on what this project has in store for fans.

Unfortunately, due to programming limitations, the game doesn't have online play, which is on one side a bad thing for a game today but on the other hand however it will take people back to the days when you invited your friend home to play, ah good ol'days!

Unfortunately, due to some problems with Sega Entertainment, which we can imagine is about copyright infringement is supposedly being sorted at the moment we cannot provide an official link to download the game, but when someone is released to the interwebz it can hardly stay prohibited. All we can hope is that everything will go alright and that eight years of production haven't gone to waste.

Nevertheless, this project which is supposedly available for Windows and Linux is a must try and gets the Addict3d seal of approval on one of the best finished fan made projects around, good work!
